What is Embodied Liberation?
From the moment we take our first breath our bodies become the vessel through which we receive and express life. As we dance with and through the various elements and seasons of our lives our bodies form and reform into the container that holds these lived experiences, becoming the manifested expression of our inner conscious and unconscious landscape.
Our bodies not only store memory but are the living memory of our life experiences, thus they become the unique walking, talking, feeling and living articulation of our story. Our bodies are essential to our learning, growing and to our relationship to the world and others. Without our bodies we wouldn’t have life and therefore our bodies are what gift us the opportunity to play in this magical human experience.
Embody is defined as “to be an expression of or give a tangible or visible form to (an idea, quality, or feeling).” To embody anything means to make manifest in physical form; Philip Shephard states “embodiment is fully inhabiting the intelligence of the body and attuning, listening and expressing the world through and with it.”
Due to the nature of the world we live in curated from centuries of control and oppression, our ability to be in full authentic expression and live embodied in our sovereignty has been imbued with shame, programming us on what we should look like, how we should act, who we should be, what emotions are acceptable to be expressed and to whom can express, etc. We have grown to be a species in which we are all holding back our truest most authentically free selves and while doing so causing disease, depression, pain and ultimately a life of suffering.
Liberation is the very act of setting ourselves free from imprisonment, slavery, oppression. It is freedom from the bounds of limits on thoughts and behaviors to and from ourselves and the world we live in. When we liberate ourselves we become free, free to create our lives, free to feel pleasure, free to be the one in charge of your one and only precious human experience.
Embodied liberation is exploring and uncovering all the ways we are restricted in living in the most authentic, sovereign expression of ourselves through and with your body. It is through the body we tap into the very essence of our unique signature and start to create the changes needed to disentangle ourselves from the deeply engrained disempowering conditioning. Through research with the Heart Math Institute it has been shown that our ability to heal and cultivate permanent change has greater effect when working from the body rather than working with just the mind. Embodied learning, exploring and connection we support the phenomenon of neuroplasticity, a process rooted in reprogramming the nervous system through repetition of the new desired pathway, slowly disabling the previous no longer desired program. So it is through the body we set ourselves free. Free to live a life of pleasure, a life of authentic you ness, and a life of sovereignty! Our very birthright.
